The absurdity of the situation was glaring. There wasn’t a flake of snow in sight, in fact zero snow at all so far in the season, yet the ticket cited a bylaw meant to ensure streets were clear to not impede the city from snow removal.

This wasn’t just an isolated incident; it was emblematic of a deeper problem. How could such a ticket be issued when the conditions that justified it didn’t exist?  Why did the city of Sudbury send bylaw officers out to enforce a city bylaw that was clearly unjustified? How many others received tickets in similar situations? How long has the city been acting in this manner? How many other cities act in similar ways?

This wasn’t just about one ticket—it was a symptom of a larger problem: . Are governments exploiting the people they serve? Why? How often? Why is the city where I grew up, the city where I raise my children, the city where I worked my whole life trying to use a bylaw in an exploitative way?

As a concerned citizen I reached out to the city and requested a meeting with the Mayor. Request denied. To make matters worse a few days later I received a letter of conviction in the mail for an alleged  red light camera violation. Conviction? I wasn’t notified? How could I be magically convicted without the opportunity to defend myself?

Lets just say that the  journey through these  frustrating experiences became the catalyst for 200BradyStreet, a platform designed to centralize governance data, make government data accessible, transparent, and actionable.
